FLORILEGIUM

Since I was a teenager, I have been fascinated by the world of Botanical Illustration and how Victorians would travel the world looking for new plants or species.  Herbariums were common for pressed specimens.  Here, this series of photographs gathered in Florilegium (from Latin flos, flor- ‘flower’ + legere ‘gather) is a collection of flowers at different stages of their lives… set in four sections – imminence, bloom, decline and retreat, which is in turn a nod to the Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus and his work on plant classification.
